Artists in Architecture. Re-Activating Modern European Houses

‘Art and architecture. An eternal marriage.’ The semantics of Artists in Architecture suggest the ambiguity of their relationship. Rather than presenting architecture as a discipline within the arts, the title reverses their dependency and suggests a utilitarian use of the position of the artist within an architectural context.

Re-Activating Modern European Houses. The mission of the European Year of Cultural Heritage (EYCH) shines through the subtitle: “our heritage: where the past meets the future”. How can artists contribute to narratives of heritage renewal? In the midst of politicians, architects, engineers, experts, and concerned citizens, the presence of an artist can fuel the debate and has the potential to explore alternative strategies and unlock hidden possibilities.
