Meryem Bayram /°1981, Antwerp) lives and works in Antwerp/Belgium. Graduated at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp as sculptor, she also studied scenography at the POPOK in Antwerp. In the work of Meryem Bayram the unfolding relation between human behavior and a constructed spatial environment is the central driving force. By proposing specific encounters between body and material, she shapes and organizes tensions between the visible and invisible, the composed and improvised, proliferating connection points while constantly reinventing new obstacles.
Recent works : the performances Autonomous Scenography ( with Gaëtan Bulourde, Clement Layes, Pol Matthé, Charo Calvo ) and Autonomous Scenography Fourfold (with Pol Matthé and Guy Rombouts ) . In 2020 she presented the artist book ROUND a BOUT ROUNDABOUT and the limited edition W hole created in collaboration with Hans Demeulenaere. As a scenographer she collaborated with national and international choreographers, theatre directors, art movies and museums.
At the moment she is artistic leader of Platform 0090 (www.0090.be) and curator of The Image Generator (image-generator.be). In the past she curated Mind the Depth /2006 – deSingel, Antwerp and Manifest Destiny /2009) – Extra City, Antwerp.
